Dutch Political Candidate Puts up ‘Bitcoin Is the Future’ Billboards With Laser Eyes

Billboards saying “Bitcoin is the future,” featuring laser eyes, can now be seen in the Netherlands. They are part of an election campaign for Robert Valentine, the chairman of the Dutch Libertarian Party and candidate for the upcoming parliamentary election.

Dutch Pro-Bitcoin Parliamentary Candidate With Laser Eyes on Billboards

The Dutch Libertarian Party candidate for the upcoming parliamentary election, Robert Valentine, is featured on billboards with a bitcoin message and laser eyes. The billboards say, “Bitcoin is de toekomst,” which means “Bitcoin is the future.”

The 2021 Dutch general election to elect the members of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the bicameral parliament of the Netherlands, is scheduled for March 17. Thirty-seven parties met the requirements to participate in the election, including Valentine’s Libertarian Party.

Valentine is currently the chairman of the Libertarian Party (LP) in the Netherlands and was the party’s nominee for the 2017 parliamentary elections. However, his party failed to win any seats, receiving only 1,492 votes. He also co-founded the Dutch Institute for Praxeology, a think tank that works for the advancement of humanity by promoting policies rooted in praxeology.

The laser eyes meme has swept through the bitcoin community since February with the underlying meaning that anyone donning the eyes is laser-focused on bitcoin’s price rising to $100,000. Politicians, celebrities, and investors have partaken and put laser eyes on their profile images. Among them are the pro-bitcoin U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis, who donned the meme temporarily, and Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary, who activated his laser eyes after he announced that he put 3% of his portfolio in bitcoin.

The Dutch Libertarian party has long been a supporter of bitcoin. In 2014, it became the first political party in the Netherlands to accept BTC donations. One Twitter user opined:

The Dutch Libertarian Party is the only political party that takes entrepreneurs, civil liberties, and bitcoin seriously.

He added: “It is time for a new way of thinking. Vote LP. Buy bitcoin. Defend your freedom and end big government.”

In the Netherlands, De Nederlandsche Bank NV (DNB), the Dutch central bank, regulates the crypto industry. In November last year, the central bank told Bitcoin.com News that 39 firms had applied to offer crypto services under the new regulation.
